Each year, over twenty thousand Americans die from AIDS that was spread, directly or indirectly, through dirty needles. It is one of the prime mechanisms by which the disease enters the heterosexual population, infecting new-born infants, men and women, teenagers and working adults.

While Pharmaceutical companies recruit lobbyists to negotiate with Congressmen, American taxpayers pay hundreds of millions of dollars each year for post-infection treatment to the dying, and for what? So that our children can be sentenced to death for a single night of indiscretion.

The politicians justify their refusal to spend a few dollars in order to save thousands of dollars (it costs the taxpayers over four times as much providing post-infection treatment, than it would to fund a needle exchange program) on the grounds that needle exchange programs are immoral.

Well, it feels kind of strange to argue morality with politicians, so I would just like to quote a few words from another leader of men: "Thou shalt not kill".

This is not just about our tax dollars -- it is also about saving the lives of our children.

This site is dedicated to collecting the human stories of people who have contracted HIV because of the refusal by Congress and the Bush administration to fund needle exchange programs.

Our hope is that by collecting these stories, we can illustrate the damage that is being done to all segments of society by this arrogant and costly policy.

If you have contracted the disease through intercourse with a drug user or use of a dirty needle, we need to hear from you. Only by helping our lawmakers understand the human impact of this policy can we persuade them to change it.

Needle exchange programs are fully supported by the A.M.A, medical researchers, and victim organizations. They save lives and money.

Comment from site sponsor:
People sometimes ask whether my reason for starting this site was concern over the lives lost due to the government's stance on needle exchange programs or the cost to taxpayers.

The answer is both - it is the combination of death and waste that concerns me.

I am not worried that the government wastes tax payer's money - it is simply the nature of politicians to waste money and the US government is better than most.

Nor am I concerned by policies that may cost lives - we all die eventually.

But for the governement to pursue a policy that costs thousands of lives, while simultaneously costing the taxpayers hundreds of millions of dollars is just too much. It sickens me as a man and infuriates me as a businessman.

Children are being born with AIDS, teenagers and mothers are dying and you and I are footing the bill because our leaders are too ignorant or cynical to approve policies that would saves lives and money. You can put a stop to this stupidity. Research the facts, then write to your congressman and senator, call their officies, tell them how you feel and how you will vote.

    Thank you for your support.
